On 31 October, the University entered a cooperation agreement with Maastricht University. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by University Rector St\u00e9phane Pallage and the President of Maastricht University, Prof. Dr. Martin Paul, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Luxembourg, Han-Maurits Schaapveld and the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg to Maastricht, Fernand Jadoul.<\/p>

Both institutions agreed to a continual exchange of knowledge, experiences and educational research results and to support each other in further educational development and in improvement of scientific qualification of academic staff. Both universities highlight their intent to further encourage the exchange of staff members and students and seek opportunities to organise joint research activities reaching from research proposals to funding agencies to scientific workshops and conferences.<\/p>

The agreement is a follow-up to a first interuniversity agreement signed in 2010. Already existing research collaborations in biomedicine, law, neuroscience as well as exchange programmes will be continued.<\/p>

Both institutions have a lot in common. Like the University of Luxembourg, Maastricht University<\/a> is a relatively young institution. Founded only in 1976, it is already among the top young universities in the world (ranked fifth in the THE Young Universities Rankings 2018). It has about 16.300 students and 4.300 staff members. Maastricht University also has a resolutely international orientation, about half of its students and one third of its academic staff members are coming from abroad. The university stands out for its innovative education model, international character and multidisciplinary approach to research and education.<\/p>
