Giovanni Peccati, Professor in Stochastic Analysis and Finance within the Mathematics Research Unit (RMATH) at the University of Luxembourg, has been named Fellow of the international Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). In addition, one of his PhD students, Ronan Herry, has received the IMS Hannan Graduate Student Travel Award.<\/p>

\nGiovanni Peccati,\u00a0IMS Fellow<\/h2>\n

An induction ceremony was organised during the\u00a012th IMS Conference<\/a>, which took place on 2-6 July 2018 in Vilnius (Lithuania).\u00a0Professor\u00a0Giovanni Peccati<\/a>\u00a0was nominated\u00a0IMS Fellow for influential and seminal contributions to the Malliavin calculus<\/strong>, especially to normal approximations and Stein\u2019s method, and to stochastic analysis on Wiener and Poisson spaces.\u00a0<\/p>

Prof. Peccati was really proud to receive this award: \u201cAchieving the status of IMS Fellow is a great honour for me, showing that my research has been noted and considered as relevant by the scientific community. I must add that many of the contributions that are mentioned in the official motivation – in particular those connected with Malliavin calculus and Stein’s method – have been developed in collaboration with my friend and colleague\u00a0Ivan Nourdin<\/a>, who is also a professor at\u00a0RMATH<\/a>.\u00a0This demonstrates once again the value of the mathematical research developed at Luxembourg University.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nRonan Herry,\u00a0IMS Hannan Graduate Student Travel Award<\/h2>\n

In addition, Ronan Herry, PhD student in mathematics under the supervision of Giovanni Peccati and Nathael Gozlan<\/a> from the University Paris Descartes, has been granted with the IMS Hannan Graduate Student Travel Award. This prize enabled him to attend and present his research activities at the IMS conference in Vilnius.\u00a0<\/p>

Ronan is working in the field of Stochastic analysis, Functional inequalities and Optimal transport<\/strong>: \u201cMy main theme of research is the use of Malliavin, semigroup and optimal transport techniques to study functional inequalities and limit theorems for probabilistic infinite dimensional models. This award is an early recognition of the work done during my thesis and the occasion to meet talented PhD students in probability from all over the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nAbout IMS<\/h2>\n

Created in 1935, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS)<\/a> is an international professional and scholarly society devoted to the development, dissemination, and application of statistics and probability. The IMS has 3,500 active members throughout the world. Approximately 10% of the current IMS membership has earned the status of fellowship. Each Fellow nominee is assessed by a committee of his\/her peers for the award. In 2018, after reviewing 37 nominations, 20 were selected for Fellowship.<\/p>
