Progressive memory loss and subsequent dysfunction of further cognitive domains characterize this neurological disease that will triplicate in numbers of affected patients over the next decade. While neurons have been hold as primary sites of pathology for decades, recently, evidence suggests that immune mechanisms play a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of disease. The lecture will recapitulate key findings and discuss how those could be harnessed for therapeutic intervention at various disease stages.<\/p><p><strong>About the speaker: <\/strong>Michael Heneka is a board-certified neurologist and clinician-scientist with over 25 years of experience in studying neurodegenerative diseases at experimental, preclinical and clinical levels. He has a long-standing interest in immunology and neuroscience. The main focus of his work is related to dementia and Alzheimer\u2019s disease. At the clinical level, he had established a neurodegenerative outpatient unit at both the University of M\u00fcnster and the University of Bonn in Germany. Before coming to Luxembourg, he led the department of Neurodegenerative Disease and Geriatric Psychiatry in Bonn from 2016 to 2021. His research at LCSB is focusing on neuroinflammation to understand molecular mechanisms of inflammatory regulation in a variety of neurodegenerative diseases.<\/p><p><strong>The event starts at 17:00\u00a0<\/strong>followed by a cocktail<\/p><p><strong>Registration: <\/strong>Registration is mandatory.
