However, the development of digital humanities in recent years has been characterised by the way it which it transcends quantitative methods. The growth of digital imaging has created a visually rich humanities scholarship which goes beyond text. A wider range of scholars are using material culture, sound and film in their work. Above all, digitisation has expanded the range of easily accessible primary sources. These transformations have not come without difficulties.
