IoT based systems, and systems of systems (SoS) are increasingly found in a large variety of application domains including healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing.\u00a0 Implementations of these types of SoS are IT intensive, and draw upon a family of IT technologies that is sometimes referred to as \u2018Smart ICT\u2019.\u00a0 This presentation will, after a general introduction to the concepts and definitions of IoT,\u00a0 explore the challenges of implementing IoT intensive SoS through examples such as \u2018smart\u2019 manufacturing and \u2018smart&rsquo; cities.<\/p><p><strong>This event will be followed by a drinks reception<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Franc\u0327ois Coallier<\/strong> is a professor at the Department of Software and IT Engineering at the E\u0301cole de technologie supe\u0301rieure (E\u0301TS), one of Canada&rsquo;s leading engineering schools, affiliated to the Universite\u0301 du Que\u0301bec network. He was CIO of E\u0301TS between 2010 and 2016 and the founding chair of the E\u0301TS Department of Software and IT Engineering from its creation in 2004 till 2010. Prior to coming to \u00c8TS, he spent more than 20 years in industry.<\/p><p>Dr. Coallier is currently the international Chair of ISO\/IEC JTC1\/SC41, the Joint ISO and IEC subcommittee responsible for the elaboration of standards for Internet of Things and related areas since its creation in 2016. He was also the international secretary responsible for the elaboration of standards in Software and Systems Engineering (ISO\/IEC JTC1\/SC7), from 1993 to 1997, and its Chair from 1997 to 2017.<\/p><p>He is a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS), a Senior Member of the IEEE and an IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Member. Dr. Coallier was the recipient of the IEEE Computer Society 2015 Hans Karlsson Award in recognition of his contributions to international standards development.<\/p><p><strong><i>Please note that a photographer will be present at this event.
