The emergence of autonomous systems like autonomous land vehicles and drones and Cyber-physical systems have challenged \u00a0engineers to develop novel MIMO systems. In this\u00a0talk, we will first consider the challenges of developing a communication system for drone-to-ground links. As a first step, experiments to model the wireless channels\u00a0 for such links are being carried out \u00a0in IISc and preliminary channel models based on these measurements will be presented in the\u00a0talk. The next part of the\u00a0talk\u00a0will focus on spatial modulation\/index modulation techniques where the information is coded as indices of antennas using very few RF transceiver chains thereby reducing the power consumption of the systems \u00a0which can lead to the design of green communication networks.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Prof. K. V. S. Hari<\/strong> received the B.E. degree from Osmania University(1983); the M.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (1985); the Ph.D. degree from the University of California at San Diego (1990).<\/p><p>His research interests include the development of signal processing algorithms for MIMO wireless communication systems, sparse signal recovery problems, indoor positioning, assistive technologies for the elderly, autonomous navigation systems and neuroscience. During his work at Stanford University, he worked on MIMO wireless channel modelling and is the co-author of the WiMAX standard on wireless channel models for fixed-broadband wireless communication systems, which proposed the Stanford University Interim (SUI) channel models.\u00a0Since 1992, he has been with the Department of Electrical\u00a0 Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, where he is currently a Professor and coordinates the activities of the Statistical Signal Processing Laboratory.<\/p><p>He has been a Visiting Faculty Member at Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA(1999-00); Affiliated Professor at KTH-Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden (2010-16); and Aalto University Espoo, Finland. He also worked at DLRL, Hyderabad, and at the Research and Training\u00a0 unit for Navigational Electronics, Osmania University. He also co-founded a company, ESQUBE Communication Solutions in Bangalore.\u00a0He served as an Editor of <i>Signal Processing\u00a0<\/i>(2006-16), Senior Associate Editor (2013-18) \u00a0and currently Editor-in-Chief (Electrical Sciences) of\u00a0<i>Sadhana<\/i> (Journal of Indian Academy of Sciences published by Springer)<i>.\u00a0<\/i>He is a Fellow of IEEE and Fellow of Indian NAE and currently a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.<\/p><\/div><\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":7188,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"featured_image_focal_point":[],"show_featured_caption":false,"ulux_newsletter_groups":"","uluxPostTitle":"","uluxPrePostTitle":"","_trash_the_other_posts":false,"_price":"","_stock":"","_tribe_ticket_header":"","_tribe_default_ticket_provider":"","_tribe_ticket_capacity":"0","_ticket_start_date":"","_ticket_end_date":"","_tribe_ticket_show_description":"","_tribe_ticket_show_not_going":false,"_tribe_ticket_use_global_stock":"","_tribe_ticket_global_stock_level":"","_global_stock_mode":"","_global_stock_cap":"","_tribe_rsvp_for_event":"","_tribe_ticket_going_count":"","_tribe_ticket_not_going_count":"","_tribe_tickets_list":"[]","_tribe_ticket_has_attendee_info_fields":false,"event_start_date":"2018-10-18 10:00:00","event_end_date":"2018-10-18 11:00:00","event_speaker_name":"Prof. K.V.S.
