The extent to which these existing skills can be used for further education depends decisively on how much we learn about them. The research project Language Awareness \u2013 Mehrsprachige F\u00e4higkeiten wahrnehmen (LAWA) is dedicated to this challenge and has developed a corresponding format to survey the abilities of young migrants in the field of text competence. As a first step, it is important to recruit subjects who, despite their rudimentary knowledge of German, are willing and able to communicate about their own language learning biographies and their approach to text understanding. In the lecture, the survey design of this first step will be presented, followed by insights into further work steps.<\/p><p>is Professor for German Didactics at the University of Vechta (Germany).
