of a Master thesis. Students must complete a mandatory 10-week internship during semester 3. Classes are taught in French or English. class=\"list-highlighted__body\">\n                        The course is going to introduce the three main domains of assessment in education, namely classroom-based assessment (e.g., difference between formative\/summative assessment), large-scale assessment (e.g., introduction to national and international large-scale studies and discussion of their impact on education policy making), and diagnostic assessment (e.g., inclusion of students with special educational needs, challenges of assessment in multilingual contexts). \u00a0In a second stage of the course, students will be introduced to different methods (e.g., qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method approaches) to tackle research questions in the three introduced domains. \u00a0To conclude, major challenges in educational assessment (e.g., rise of AI, practical implications of inclusive teaching, reference frameworks) will be discussed.\u00a0                    <\/div>\n                <\/li>\n of 6 portfolios comprising both individual and group work, aiming at documenting each student\u2019s learning process throughout the semester. The portfolios will be submitted in two stages: the first three portfolios will be used for formative assessment (i.e., to provide students with feedback to support their learning), while the complete set of six portfolios will constitute the basis for summative assessment.   <p><br>This specific course is the first part of a course stretching over two semesters. During this first semester, students will repeat, deepen, and widen their knowledge of basic statistical concepts used in social sciences as well as in educational assessment. Relevant concepts and statistical procedures are introduced in great depth and advanced concepts are presented in order to give students confidence when dealing with these basic statistical ideas. Specifically, the following topics are covered: Measuring and scaling, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, covariance and correlation, linear regression, and multiple regression. These concepts serve as basis for the second part of the course taking place next semester, in which the advanced concept of structural equation modelling is introduced. The course is aimed at developing a practical understanding and will allow students to master basic and advanced models by themselves.<br>The following classes of models will be covered within in the course:<br> Path analysis<br> Confirmatory factor analysis<br> Structural equation models (i.e., latent regression models)<br>On all these topics, background information will be given, but the course focuses on hands-on examples. Further, opportunity to use own data sets and to discuss them in class will be given. Specifically, students will get an in-depth understanding of the underlying statistical model and the most widely used software package Mplus among social scientists.
