At the heart of our work is the <strong>description, documentation, analysis, explanation, understanding, and development of teaching and learning processes and related structures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"teaching-learning-and-learning-to-teach\"\n    >\nTeaching, learning, and learning to teach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We study the interplay between learning and teaching in a range of contexts with the aim of <strong>developing, understanding and improving the quality of education<\/strong>. Contexts of inquiry in this inter- and multi-disciplinary institute can range from activities within classrooms, to extra\u2010curricular settings, as well as to initiatives outside of school contexts, including homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We focus on teaching or educational aspects by addressing the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">learning in and through interaction,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">pedagogy, didactics, and the practice of teaching,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">curriculum areas together with novel teaching resources and methods,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">the diversity of learning \/ teaching contexts in a multicultural society,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">the influence of non-school factors on school success, low completion rates and school dropouts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">assessment and evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Currently, T&amp;L researchers carry out projects in the fields of <strong>language education, mathematics education, physical education, science education, teacher education, values education, computational thinking and educational technology practices<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A thread that reaches across some of these different content areas is the relationship between dialogue, language development, and learning, and several projects in the institute are exploring this relationship In sum T&amp;L researchers study learners in context and explore ways to improve practices, competences, skills and learning in various disciplines, for various age groups and in various settings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--cover\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/FHSE_ITL_abacus_Image_by_Pexels_from_Pixabay.jpg\"\n                srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/FHSE_ITL_abacus_Image_by_Pexels_from_Pixabay-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/FHSE_ITL_abacus_Image_by_Pexels_from_Pixabay.jpg 713w\"\n                style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: cover; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 16\/9; object-fit: cover; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers also seek to problematise the qualifications required by a society under digital transformation and in search of sustainability solutions, i.e., the need for thorough <strong>knowledge, skills and expertise<\/strong> in order to <strong>innovate and transit to a more sustainable future<\/strong>. The prospective <strong>flexibility and adaptability<\/strong> of the educational system as a whole (e.g., embracing kindergarten as well as vocational education and professional training) call for studies on the interplay between the education system and a changing society.
