Study: are school results of children with autism influenced by languages, emotions, and social skills?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For children on the autism spectrum, school grades do not always reflect their true potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Andreia Costa<\/a> and M. Sc. Ma\u00efte Franco<\/a>, from the University of Luxembourg, are leading a project involving children on the autism spectrum in order to understand what impact social skills, emotions, multilingualism and the use of language can have on their cognition and academic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study aims to understand different factors that may determine why some children on the autism spectrum succeed in school while others, despite their intellectual ability, have struggles to navigate the education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings of this study aim to be used as a basis for improving and developing methods of school support for children on the autism spectrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is funded by the Fonds National de la Recherche<\/a> (FNR \u2013 project 13651499) and has the support of the Minist\u00e8re de l’Education nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse<\/a> (MENJE), the Centre pour enfants et jeunes pr\u00e9sentant un trouble du spectre de l\u2019autisme<\/a> (CTSA) and the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg<\/a> (FAL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call for participants<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two researchers from the University of Luxembourg are thus looking for children on the autism spectrum<\/strong> (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger\u2019s Syndrome, Pervasive developmental disorder, etc.) attending a primary school in Luxembourg<\/strong> to participate in this project. The children should be schooled in either German, French, or English<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study takes place, depending on your preference, in one of our locations (m\u00f9 or Kirchberg) and takes approximately 2 hours (with breaks). During the session, children will be asked to execute some tasks and to answer to some questionnaires. At the same time, one parent will also be asked to be present and collaborate by answering to questionnaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compensation: A Letzshop.lu<\/i>voucher worth \u20ac50 for the parent and \u20ac50 for the child.–<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n
