Since September 2019, John Scheid, an international renowned ancient historian, is guest professor at the Institute for History.<\/p>

Professor Scheid is a leading expert in the field of ancient religion, institutions and society of ancient Rome and archaeology of religion. For 15 years, he was professor at the prestigious Coll\u00e8ge de France. Here, he was also responsible for the international relations.\u00a0 Furthermore, he directed and coordinated several international excavations in Italy and Tunisia. Since 2016, John Scheid is professeur honoraire at the Coll\u00e8ge de France and member of the renowned Acad\u00e9mie des inscriptions et belles-lettres. He is the author, resp. coauthor of 19 books, more than 100 book chapters and about 70 papers in international scientific journals.\u00a0 In 2000, he was awarded the \u201cPrix Saintour de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des inscriptions et belles-lettres\u201d and in 2015 the \u201cPrix Emile Girardeau de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des sciences morales et politiques\u201d. He received the honorary doctorate of the Universities of Erfurt and of Chicago and he is fellow of several important international scientific institutions, such as the German Archaeological Institute, the British Academy or the Acad\u00e9mie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.
