This innovative programme is designed to enhance oral language skills in young children, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds.\n\nDelivered in Portuguese, MOLLY focuses on improving key areas such as listening, speaking, vocabulary, storytelling, and phonological awareness. The programme includes engaging tools like \"Molly the Frog,\" which make learning fun and interactive. By combining direct instruction, active participation, and repetition, MOLLY aims to help children build a strong language foundation that supports their future learning.\n\nThe effectiveness of the MOLLY intervention was tested in a randomised controlled trial involving 186 Portuguese-speaking children in Luxembourg, where Luxembourgish is the primary language of instruction in preschool. Children were randomly assigned to either the MOLLY language intervention or a control group receiving an active control intervention. Results showed that those in the MOLLY group made significant gains in their Portuguese language skills, including vocabulary, narrative skills, and phonemic awareness. Notably, the intervention also had positive transfer effects on Luxembourgish, with improvements observed in receptive vocabulary and phonemic awareness.\n\nThe MOLLY team is excited to continue advancing this impactful project, seeking new ways to expand its reach and support language development for vulnerable children and communities.","rp_start_date":"2018-07-01 14:35:29","rp_duration":48,"rp_main_funder":"FNR: Luxembourg National Research Fund","rp_other_funders":[],"rp_external_partners":["University of Oxford","University of Sheffield","Cognitive and Socio-Emotional Development Research Group"],"rp_keywords":["Oral language intervention","Language-minority","Heritage language","Dual language learners","Language transfer","Home language"],"rp_members":[{"name":"Pascale ENGEL DE ABREU","isPI":true,"isExternal":false,"featuredImageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/person-image\/NTAwMDE3NTNfX1Bhc2NhbGUgRU5HRUwgREUgQUJSRVU=","detailsPageUrl":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/people\/pascale-engel-de-abreu\/","id":"50001753"},{"name":"Carolina NIKAEDO","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"Former Postdoc at the University of Luxembourg"},{"name":"Ariana LOFF","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"Former Postdoc at the University of Luxembourg"},{"name":"Maggie Snowling","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"University of Oxford"},{"name":"Charles Hulme","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"University of Oxford"},{"name":"Silke Fricke","isPI":false,"isExternal":true,"featuredImageUrl":"","detailsPageUrl":"","entity":"University of Sheffield"}]},"research-project-status":[],"research-project-type":[],"field-of-interest":[],"organisation":[171,147,178],"authorship":[76],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/17334"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/core-researches"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/76"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/17334\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":17335,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/core-researches\/17334\/revisions\/17335"}],"wp:authorship":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/76"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17334"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"research-project-status","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-status?post=17334"},{"taxonomy":"research-project-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/research-project-type?post=17334"},{"taxonomy":"field-of-interest","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/field-of-interest?post=17334"},{"taxonomy":"organisation","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fhse-en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/organisation?post=17334"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
