This method has shown promise in both therapeutic applications and research settings, where it is used to modulate various physiological and psychological processes. Despite its potential, reliable biomarkers to elucidate the precise mechanisms of taVNS effects are still lacking.\nCurrently, several biomarkers have been proposed to measure the effects of taVNS, including heart rate variability (HRV), pupil dilation, and specific electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns. However, results from studies employing these biomarkers often conflict, partly due to the wide range of stimulation parameters used across different studies. Additionally, the long-term effects of daily taVNS application on these biomarkers, as well as on mood and stress levels, have not yet been investigated.\nThis project aims to address these gaps by systematically varying the stimulation parameters of taVNS to identify reliable biomarkers. The study will be conducted in two phases: the first phase will involve assessing the immediate effects within a single laboratory session, and the second phase will investigate the impact of daily taVNS use over a week. Participants will undergo taVNS sessions with systematically altered stimulation parameters, and biomarkers will be measured before, during, and after stimulation to capture acute responses. In addition to physiological measurements, mood and stress levels will be tracked to evaluate the long-term effects of daily taVNS use.\nOverall, this project aims to contribute to a better understanding of optimal taVNS stimulation parameters, thereby facilitating the generalization and comparability of findings across different studies.
