The study analyses academic related stay abroad as a transition on different levels, e.g. within the educational system as transition into higher education, within family\/life course as transition into adulthood or as transition between different social networks. At the same time, the interplay of those different transitions is one of the dissertation's central interestes. Theoretical lens is the life course perspective, realised in a mixed-methods design (semi-structured interviews and online survey).
