Admissions

To apply for a programme at the University of Luxembourg, candidates must comply with the general eligibility criteria for the chosen programme type and be selected by the study programme based on the quality of their application.

Specific information for this programme

  • Required Degree

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in (human) geography, spatial planning, architecture, urban studies, regional economics, or urban sociology. However, candidates with degrees covering other areas are also welcome to apply and may be accepted if there is a demonstration of sufficient knowledge in the relevant fields.

    Language requirements: English C1 (CEFR).

    In addition to the documents required for the enrolment at the University of Luxembourg, students need to submit the following documents:
    – a signed copy of the application form,
    – a CV
    – a letter of motivation
    – 2 reference letters from the applicant’s most recent supervisors (academic and/or professional)
    – other documents applicants consider useful (e.g. internship reports, language certificates).

  • Procedure

    Candidates are evaluated by the admissions jury according to the quality of their motivation letter, their CV, their academic performance, their language competencies and their reference letters.
    The application dossier should be submitted before the relevant deadlines. Once the admission jury has reached its final decision, students will be notified if they have been accepted, conditionally accepted, or rejected.
    As student places are limited, it is recommended to send in application dossiers as early as possible.

Letter of motivation

The personal letter of motivation should

  • demonstrate your theoretical, conceptual and methodological knowledge in the field of geography, spatial planning and analysis.
  • outline the specific reasons, which led you to apply to the Master and indicate what you expect to achieve after its completion (i.e. please explain your future professional ambitions).
  • describe the academic or professional work you have carried out previously which are related to the Master.
  • specify the reasons why you want to study in Luxembourg and at the University of Luxembourg.
  • include a description of an idea for a research project that you might like to explore within the framework of the Master programme (2 paragraphs).
  • include a detailed explanation of any gaps in your education/work experience.
