About
The HBSC study was founded in 1982 and nowadays the network includes 51 countries and regions from Europe, North America and Asia. The survey assesses children’s and adolescents’ well-being, health status and health-related behaviours. It aims to understand the relationship between health and social factors and to communicate the results to the public. The HBSC study is conducted every 4 years surveying students aged 11, 13 and 15 years. In the HBSC network, more than 200 000 students were surveyed in the round of 2017/2018.
Luxembourg conducted a pilot survey in 1999 and has participated in the HBSC survey rounds of 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022. Since 2016, the HBSC study is undertaken in cooperation with the University of Luxembourg, the Ministère de la Santé / Direction de la santé and the Ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse. In each wave, between 7 500 and 10 000 students aged from 11 to 18 years answered to the self-report questionnaire. The students attended schools in Luxembourg that teach according to the national curriculum. The findings support the development of measures to promote health and well-being that are adjusted to young people in Luxembourg.
