Professor Glaurdić’s work is situated at the crossroads of comparative politics, international relations, and political economy, with a strong grounding in historical research. His recent research explores the legacies of war, electoral behavior, and democratic development in post-conflict societies, as well as the interaction between political ideology and public health crisis, with a focus on Southeast Europe.
Teaching
Professor Glaurdić teaches the courses on Comparative Politics; European History since 1945; International Relations; and Strategy in the Master in European Governance programme. He also teaches the course Europe East and West in the Bachelor in European Cultures programme. He is the organizer and convenor of the biennial PhD Conference in Social Sciences, and he has contributed workshops on Foreign and Security Policy Making, as well as seminars on the Long-Term Trends of Our Societies in the Doctoral School of Social Sciences
Outreach
ProfessorGlaurdić is a regular contributor to media in Luxembourg and Southeast Europe on European and global politics. He has also developed major datasets and online interactive platforms Mapdat and LexiCS for the presentation of data on the politics of war and memory.
Awards/Distinctions
The work of Professor Glaurdić has been supported by numerous grants and fellowships, including a 1.5-million-euro European Research Council Starting Grant for the ELWar project. He was a recipient of the a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Cambridge. In 2025, he won the University of Luxembourg Teaching Award
Work experience
Prior to joining the university, Professor Glaurdić was a Junior Visiting Fellow at the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna (2008), Fellow of Clare College, University of Cambridge (2008-2017), and a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow (2012-2016) at Cambridge’s Department of Politics and International Studies.
Educational background
Professor Glaurdić earned his PhD in political science (with distinction) from Yale University in 2009, and his BA in political science and international business (summa cum laude) from Illinois Wesleyan University.
