Analysing past developments, assessing the current state of innovation and anticipating change in terms of its impact rather than the specifics of the technology can help businesses cope with STEEP (social, technological, economic, environmental, political) uncertainties, he argued.<\/p><p>Among the innovations changing industries, Ken O\u2019Farrell (Global Reverse Logistics Manager at Microsoft) discussed the impact of automation and data-driven decision making on transparency and information access across supply chains. Data analytics and artificial intelligence were also the focus of an interview with Dr Holger K\u00f6mm (Director of the Adidas Group\u2019s Data Science Lab). Dr K\u00f6mm emphasised the importance of creating an interface between data scientists, who develop solutions, and the users of these solutions.<\/p><p><strong>Jointly working on solutions<\/strong><\/p><p><strong><figure class=\"wp-block-dev4-reusable-blocks-image  object-fit--contain\">\n    \n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-image unilux-custom-image-block\"\n                alt=\"\"\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2023\/07\/presentation_lcl.jpg\"\n                srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2023\/07\/presentation_lcl-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2023\/07\/presentation_lcl.jpg 583w\"\n                style=\"object-position: 50.00% 50.00%; font-family: &quot;object-fit: contain; object-position: 50.00% 50.00%;&quot;; aspect-ratio: 4\/3; object-fit: contain; width: 100%;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n\/>    <\/figure><\/strong><\/p><p>Showing that the future of supply chains will be impacted in many different areas, LCL <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fdef\/dem\/people\/joachim_arts\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Associate Prof. Joachim Arts<\/a> gave a comprehensive overview of the after-sales market and the effects of \u201cservicisation\u201d, often referred to as power-by-the-hour, on access to data, product design, warehousing decisions, and the logistics surrounding replacement parts.<\/p><p>A panel discussion, featuring Arie Moruanx (Global Surgery Planning Excellence Director, Johnson &#038; Johnson), Javier Tordable (Technical Director, Office of the CTO at Google Cloud), and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/doe\/members\/holger_voos\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Holger Voos<\/a> ( Head of the Automatic Control Laboratory, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/snt\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">SnT<\/a>, University of Luxembourg) concluded the day with a debate on the impact of prevailing innovations, such as robotics, AI, 4D printing and more.<\/p><p>LCL Director <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/fdef\/department_of_economics_and_management\/luxembourg_centre_for_logistics_and_supply_chain_management\/people\/benny_mantin\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Benny Mantin<\/a>, who opened the conference with an overview of the LCL\u2019s activities since its inaugural eXplore conference in 2017, also provided research insights into the future of supply chain management and highlighted the importance of bringing the industry and academia together to jointly find solutions.<\/p><p>One of the LCL\u2019s efforts in this area includes its Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management students, who prepare their thesis projects in collaboration with industry partners. Participants of the eXplore conference were able to discover the projects during a lunchtime poster session and discuss the work with the students.
