At the LCL, she conducted joint research with Prof. Anne Lange on additive manufacturing technologies in the context of industrial supply chains. Her research has focused on the impact of additive manufacturing on strategic supply chain decisions, such as the supply chain design and supply chain governance choice.<\/p><p><strong>Abstract of the paper<\/strong><\/p><p>In cooperation with Prof. Anne Lange and Prof. Ralf Elbert from Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), Anne Friedrich has authored a paper \u201cMake-or-buy decisions for industrial additive manufacturing\u201d which is forthcoming in the Journal of Business Logistics.<\/p><p>In the paper, the researchers <i>apply a multiple<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>case study approach to investigate why and how industrial additive manufacturing (AM) impacts the make<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>or<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>buy decision of manufacturing firms. Researchers identify four decision profiles demonstrating the spectrum of specific governance structures and develop a framework to explain the underlying rationales.<\/i><\/p><p><i>The paper suggests strong arguments for in<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>house AM including firms\u2019 perceived need to protect their digitally encapsulated intellectual property, reevaluation of their core competencies, commitment to internal learning, and senior management&#8217;s enthusiasm for AM. However, by using transaction cost economics and the resource<\/i><i>\u2010<\/i><i>based view, the researchers contribute to the understanding of how arguments of these general theories have been modified by the digital and emerging traits of AM, ultimately providing managers a clear perspective on alternative strategies for their AM implementation process\u201d.<\/i><\/p><p>Once the paper has been published you can read the full version <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1111\/jbl.12302\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. She holds a Bachelor and Master\u2019s degree in Industrial Engineering from Technical University of Darmstadt with a specialisation in logistics and supply chain management.<\/p><p>Anne\u2019s research interests further include business models for additive manufacturing.
