Dr. Garc\u00eda Olmedo\u2019s winning article examines the practice of\u00a0nationality\u00a0planning in international investment law, arguing that this practice exacerbates the unbalanced relationship between host States and investors. It then proposes\u00a0underexplored treaty mechanisms that States can adopt to curb nationality\u00a0planning practices through\u00a0provisions that\u00a0restrict\u00a0the range of investors that qualify for protection.\u00a0 The article will be of interest to investment policy makers and other stakeholders involved in IIA reforms that aim\u00a0aim at alining investment protection with other public interests of states.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Dr. Garc\u00eda Olmedo will also present and discuss his article with ICLQ Editor in Chief Professor Sir Malcolm Evans OBE KCMG at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biicl.org\/events\/11477\/iclq-annual-lecture-2021\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ICLQ Annual Lecture on 19 April 2021.<\/a><\/p><p>Supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fdef\/departement_droit\/people\/matthew_happold\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Matthew Happold<\/a>, Dr. Garc\u00eda Olmedo defended his doctoral thesis \u2018\u2018Nationality Planning in International Investment Law: Problems and Solutions\u201d in July 2020.
