The 13th Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition held its first-ever Virtual International Rounds of the Moot Court due to the public health emergency confronting the world.<\/p>

Earlier in February, the University of Luxembourg team had already qualified for the International Rounds in Oxford, but it was put to the test in March to quickly and swiftly adapt to a new format of recorded pleadings in order to prepare and compete during the confinement period in Luxembourg. Composed of Melanie Herrenbrandt, Tom Royer and Natalia Olechnowicz, and coached by PhD student Angelica Fernandez, the team rose to the challenge of conveying persuasiveness and strength in the legal reasoning of oral arguments through video. Competing against 28 other teams from around the world, the University of Luxembourg took 8th place in this international competition. It also won the two rounds it competed in, against Cardozo School of Law (USA) and National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russia). We congratulate the achievement and success of this team that participated for the first time on this Moot Court, and that showed perseverance and hard work even in these difficult and unprecedented times.<\/p>

The Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court<\/a>\u00a0aims to foster and cultivate interest in freedom of expression issues and the role of the media and information technologies in societies around the world. This year’s moot court case focused on hate speech used on online platforms and the interplay between privacy and freedom of expression in the context of religious tensions between two communities.
