On 21 September 2023, the Gender Equality Delegate, Prof. Skerdi Zanaj<\/a>, hosted the inaugural networking lunch for women professors. This was also the first networking initiative under the newly launched ADVANCE Mentoring program<\/a>. This program, organized by the Gender Equality Office, aims to nurture an equitable research culture and emphasizes mentoring as a catalyst for growth and empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of the event was a compelling keynote speech by Prof. Katalin Ligeti<\/a>, a trailblazer in her own right as the University’s sole female Dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Ligeti shared her personal journey, highlighting the pivotal role of networking in advancing one’s career. She resonated with the audience by addressing a pervasive issue \u2013 the tendency for women to underestimate their own potential in recruitment processes. Prof. Ligeti offered practical advice on how to actively network, including strategies to overcome anxiety. She also stressed the importance of mentorship, highlighting the enriching experience of having mentors and the benefits of becoming a mentor oneself. In addition, Prof. Ligeti talked about the importance of women supporting each other in academia. Finally, the Dean reaffirmed the University’s commitment to gender equality and encouraged attendees to proactively build and nurture professional networks, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambiance of the networking lunch was nothing short of inspiring and intimate, resembling a cosy lunch among friends. The event provided a unique opportunity to gain invaluable insights into the challenges faced by women professors and an opportunity to connect with other female professors. In addition to the FDEF Dean’s impactful address, Zanaj also provided updates on the latest initiatives underway within the Gender Equality team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, the event left a resounding impression of positivity and inspiration.
