{"id":497,"date":"2019-07-31T08:06:41","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T08:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fdef-en\/news\/lsf-professor-moderates-infrastructure-panel-at-2019-aiib-meeting\/"},"modified":"2019-07-31T08:06:41","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T08:06:41","slug":"lsf-professor-moderates-infrastructure-panel-at-2019-aiib-meeting","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fdef-en\/news\/lsf-professor-moderates-infrastructure-panel-at-2019-aiib-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"LSF Professor moderates infrastructure panel at 2019 AIIB Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\"><p>Prof. Roman Kr\u00e4ussl from the Luxembourg School of Finance (LSF) moderated in mid-July a panel discussion on \u201cDebt Sustainability and Macroeconomic Issues in Infrastructure\u201d as part of the 2019 Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank\u2019s Annual Meeting (AIIB) hosted in Luxembourg.<\/p><p>Panelists included Ms. Zeti Akhtar Aziz, (Former Governor of Malaysia\u2019s Central Bank, panel member for AIIB International Advisory), Mr. Bambang Permadi Brodjonegoro, (Minister for National Development Planning in Indonesia), Mr. Philip Hammond, (Chancellor of the Exchequer in the United Kingdom) and Mr. Takatoshi Kato (Senior Adviser at the Japan Center for International Finance), as well as Mr. Martin Kimmig,(Chief Risk Officer at AIIB) and Mr. Wencai Zhang, (General Director at the Ministry of Finance in China).<\/p><p>\u201cWe had a very successful and interesting panel on debt sustainability and infrastructure implications,\u201d Prof. Kr\u00e4ussl said following the event, praising the participation of senior experts from Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, as well as the input of various top representatives from the AIIB.<\/p><p>\u201cWe concluded that sustainability is key for the future success of infrastructure investment,\u201d he also said, adding that \u201cpublic-private partnerships are highly relevant\u201d, that \u201cthey have to focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors\u201d, while also stressing the importance of individual investments made into infrastructure.<\/p><p><\/p><p>The two-day event marked the AIIB\u2019s 4th annual meeting and first of its kind outside of\u00a0Asia and allowed the bank\u2019s governors and directors to engage with delegations from members, prospective members, partner institutions, business leaders, civil society and experts from a range of fields.<\/p><p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoover.org\/profiles\/roman-kraussl\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University<\/a>, Prof. Kr\u00e4ussl recently travelled to the United States to present <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwen.uni.lu\/fdef\/news\/investing_in_infrastructure_as_an_asset_class\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">his latest research on the risk and return characteristics of infrastructure investments<\/a>.
