On 19 March 2026, we were delighted to welcome Prof. Cristina Cattaneo from the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE).
As part of our doctoral lecture series on Cross-Border Labor Mobility, Prof. Cattaneo delivered an insightful lecture on “Climate-induced migration: evidence, impacts and projections”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This lecture explored the growing body of evidence on the links between climate change and migration, examining how factors such as rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and water scarcity influence both internal and cross-border mobility. While migration can serve as an important adaptation strategy, the lecture highlighted that high costs may limit access for more vulnerable populations. The presentation also discussed the broader impacts of climate-induced migration on both origin and destination regions, including implications for economic development, social dynamics, and resource allocation. Finally, the lecture reviewed projections of future climate-related migration, outlining the different modelling approaches used in the literature and their limitations, and identifying key avenues for future research in this rapidly evolving field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This lecture series is organised by Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER)<\/a> and the Doctoral School in Economics, Finance and Management at the University of Luxembourg, in the framework of the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR)<\/a>, Luxembourg-funded project ACROSS and financing scheme RESCOM.<\/p>\n\n\n
