On 15 November 2024, the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) hosted a special day of company presentations for Master in Law students. This event offered an in-depth exploration of key legal and finance sectors, with many of the Faculty\u2019s industry partners sharing hands-on insights, career advice, and exclusive internship opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, students explored diverse areas of law – from investment fund management to forensic financial crime investigation -under the guidance of top industry representatives. The event began with a workshop hosted by Clifford Chance, FDEF\u2019s partner in the Moot Court Programme<\/a>, where HR professionals and lawyers offered practical tips on crafting standout job applications, a critical skill for students preparing to enter the job market. <\/p>\n\n\n

Students were excited to see four of our alumni among the presenters from Clifford Chance: Victor Hilbertz, a graduate of the Bachelor en Droit<\/a><\/em> and now a Trainee Lawyer; Pier Lupinu, a Doctoral graduate in Banking and Finance Law<\/a><\/em> and currently a Banking and Finance Knowledge Advisor; Delphine Castera, a graduate of the Master in European Business Law<\/a><\/em> and currently a Trainee Lawyer; and Donald Sefer, a graduate of the same programme and now a Senior Associate. Students greatly appreciated the practical insights and tips shared by the alumni, with one student, Pawel, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201f<\/span>\n I attended several company presentations, including one by Clifford Chance, which highlighted its openness to new horizons, its commitment to inclusivity, and its core values. Following this, a series of sessions featured a variety of legal experts, including representatives from FDEF longstanding partners such as Arendt and ATOZ, as well as officials from government ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, several sessions were led by FDEF alumni, who not only presented but also actively engaged with students. Among them were Federico Merlin Casarini, a graduate of the Master in European Economic and Financial Criminal Law<\/a><\/em> and now an Analyst at Deloitte\u2019s Forensic & Financial Crime Department; Eirini Pipidi Kalogirou, a graduate of the Master in European and International Tax Law<\/a><\/em> and now a Senior Tax Associate at ATOZ; Gaelle Gammaitoni, a graduate of the Master in Space, Communication, and Media Law<\/a><\/em> and currently a Data Protection Advisor at l\u2019Administration des Douanes et Accises; Laure Bourguignon, a graduate of the same programme and now a Legal Advisor at the Ministry of State\u2019s Department of Media, Connectivity, and Digital Policy; and Jennifer Burr, a graduate of the Master in European Union Law and Litigation<\/a><\/em> and now Of Counsel at Maples and Calder.<\/p>\n\n\n

European law plays a central role in FDEF\u2019s Master in Law programmes. As part of this focus, the Benelux Union, represented by Jean-Claude Meyer, Deputy Director General, and St\u00e9phane Verwilghen, Legal Advisor, shared valuable insights about the Union and cross-border cooperation for the good-be citizens and businesses. Additionally, students attended an informative session by Catherine Dion-Bourin, Director of the AML\/FT Department at the Ministry of Justice, who discussed the Ministry\u2019s structure and its efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day offered law students an enriching experience, broadening their understanding of potential career paths and helping them build valuable connections with future employers and Faculty alumni. Presenters shared key insights from their fields, providing their perspectives on various legal sectors and offering a deeper understanding of the skills and expertise required for success. Students particularly valued the opportunity to ask specific questions and gain insights into the personal experiences of presenters and alumni.
