The University of Luxembourg celebrated the 2nd<\/sup> anniversary of the European Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office (EPPO) by organising, in collaboration with the EPPO, the Conference “EPPO the way forward: new potentials and challenges”. For the very first time, speakers from the EPPO and academic experts came together to discuss the level of implementation of the EPPO Regulation in the Member States based on the \u2013 still pending \u2013 assessment study launched by the Commission. <\/p>\n\n\n

Furthermore, after two years of operation, the Conference showed that the status of the EPPO<\/a> remains an open question; the extension of the EPPO\u2019s material scope of competence to crimes other than crimes against the financial interests of the EU such as environmental crime, the violation of Union restrictive measures and corruption is already on the table albeit with some reluctance; and despite the challenges, the EPPO is evolving to a global actor in the fight against PIF crimes (crimes against the financial interests of the European Union).<\/p>\n\n\n

Finally, Advocate General of the European Court of Justice, Michael Anthony Collins gave an inspiring keynote speech on the role of the CJEU in EPPO proceedings, and the STEPPO (the Jean Monnet Module of the University Bicocca of Milan) presented its VR tool to experience the EPPO.<\/p>\n\n\n
