The University offers the first Master in Investment Funds Law in Europe<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Luxembourg and its partners, Luxembourg law firms Arendt & Medernach<\/a> and Elvinger Hoss Prussen<\/a>, have launched a Chair in Investment Funds Law within the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance<\/a> for a period of five years from September 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activities of the Chair will respond to the continual needs of the finance hub, which must adapt on one hand to a constantly evolving European legal framework for investment funds, and on the other hand to the new challenges linked to digitalisation and sustainable development. Its activities will also be designed to support the financial centre to get a head start on innovation in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team behind the Chair will focus its efforts on three areas of activity: teaching, research and knowledge transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nA Master dedicated to investment funds law<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A new Master in Investment Funds Law<\/a> (LL.M.) will host its first class in September 2023. The programme, a Master taught in French and English, is the first Master in Europe entirely dedicated to investment funds law. With a capacity of 25 students, this programme focused on Luxembourg law will train lawyers in the Luxembourg investment funds sector. The course will benefit from Luxembourg’s position as European leader in the distribution of investment funds, as well as the expertise of Arendt & Medernach and Elvinger Hoss Prussen, through an internship and the intervention of renowned experts who will provide teaching based on case studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nPromote the expertise of Luxembourg researchers and practitioners<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Chair’s team and the Chairholder, Prof. Isabelle Riassetto<\/a>, will conduct fundamental and applied research in strategic areas for the fund industry in Luxembourg, in particular on real estate funds, private equity funds, debt funds and long-term European funds, as well as on cross-cutting issues such as investment funds and company law, Fintech and investment funds, or even cross-border distribution of investment funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nPromoting Luxembourg as a teaching and research centre in investment funds law<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Chair will promote Luxembourg as a centre of excellence in research and teaching in investment funds law, notably through the organisation of an annual international conference, as well through knowledge transfer between academia, partners, industry and civil society<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At a time when attracting new qualified talent is a major challenge for the financial centre, Luxembourg had to provide a university programme aimed at the future players in the investment fund market,<\/i>” said Sophie Laguesse, Partner and member of the Management Committee of Elvinger Hoss Prussen. “In this context, supporting the creation of the first university Master’s degree dedicated to investment funds was an obvious choice for us, given the commitment our firm has always had to the development of the financial centre.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
