The date was September 17, the day that since 2017 was chosen to celebrate the <strong>International Microorganism Day<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In health, food, and environment, microbes are an essential part of everyday life. This neurodegenerative disorder, affecting over 6 million individuals worldwide, is generally diagnosed when motor symptoms become apparent and substantial neurological damage has already occurred. Early detection hence represents a critical unmet need that would facilitate a prompt use of available therapies to delay the progression of the disease. Having studied how bacteria interact with microplastics in the ocean, the research team of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/people\/anupam-sengupta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prof. Anupam Sengupta<\/a> created a patented technology that harnesses microorganisms to produce sustainable, carbon-negative biominerals. Aligned with Luxembourg\u2019s and the respective research institutes\u2019 research priorities, especially personalised healthcare, MICRO-PATH aims to address microbiome-driven impacts of environmental, lifestyle, and socio-economic factors on disease mechanisms.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-spacer is-spacer-size-md\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"we-often-think-of-biodiversity-in-terms-of-forests-and-oceans-but-did-you-know-your-gut-is-home-to-a-bustling-ecosystem-of-microbes-and-that-this-inner-world-plays-a-role-in-health-way-bey\"\n    >\nWe often think of biodiversity in terms of forests and oceans. But did you know your gut is home to a bustling ecosystem of microbes \u2014 and that this inner world plays a role in health, way beyond helping with digestion?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This matters because it is assumed that diversity = resilience.
