{"id":49265,"date":"2025-08-25T14:05:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T12:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=49265"},"modified":"2025-08-25T15:40:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T13:40:07","slug":"student-led-and-proud-how-uni-lu-s-prizma-fosters-belonging","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/news\/student-led-and-proud-how-uni-lu-s-prizma-fosters-belonging\/","title":{"rendered":"Student-led and proud: How Uni.lu\u2019s PRIZMA\u00a0fosters belonging"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>As the University of Luxembourg strives to promote an inclusive and supportive environment, student-led initiatives play an essential role in shaping campus culture and community life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contributing to this mission, a small group of students founded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/life-en\/social-life\/student-associations-clubs\/lgbt\/\">PRIZMA, the Uni.lu LGBTQ+ Association<\/a> in 2019. Though struggling to get much traction because of the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, the group started out with only 3 to 4 members and now has an online following of about 100 people, that grows larger every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"building-community-and-visibility-on-campus\"\n    >\nBuilding community and visibility on campus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PRIZMA was created with the clear goal of ensuring that LGBTQIA+ students at the university feel seen, supported, and connected. For many students, moving to Luxembourg for their studies can feel isolating, especially when they are far from family or familiar communities. The association offers a welcoming space where students can express themselves freely and find solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ community, recognition and equality and create a safe space where people can meet and be themselves without fear of judgement,\u201d shares Sarah, a committee member in charge of the group organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The association is open to students, staff and people from outside the university. It organises regular events and initiatives designed to build community, raise awareness, and advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights within and beyond the university. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Social gatherings, such as weekly \u201csafe space\u201d meetings at the Maison des Arts et Etudiants, picnics, get-togethers, and board game evenings, which help students connect in a relaxed environment; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Roundtable talks for key dates such as the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), Neurodiversity Pride Day or Bisexual Visibility Day;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Collaborations with national LGBTQIA+ organisations such as CIGALE and the Rainbow Center (Rosa L\u00ebtzebuerg) to bring resources and expertise to campus;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Advocating to develop structural support for LGBTQIA+ students within university policies and services.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"successful-first-initiatives\"\n    >\nSuccessful first initiatives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201fAn achievement we are proud of is the 3rd name (preferred name) option, implemented in 2024 for Bachelor and Master\u2019s students. It had been on our list of demands for several years and now we are looking into possibilities of extending this option to PhD students and staff members. We listen to our members\u2019 demands and questions, such as the possibility of gender-neutral bathrooms, and we even have a Telegram link for questions that anyone can send anonymously.\u201d  \u201cWe are always very happy to welcome new people, answer questions via text or in person, discuss any LGBTQ+ related uni issues\u2026and anything members feel a need to discuss.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking for active members to increase their activities, the group has set up sveral ways exist to get in touch and be involved: a Discord channel, a Whatsapp group and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lgbtq.uni.lu\/?igsh=MXI3Ymh1YmdlN2ZudA%3D%3D#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram page<\/a>, where the <a href=\"https:\/\/tellonym.me\/prizma.4622906\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tellonym group<\/a> link is also detailed (for the possibility to ask anonymous questions). For details on how to join, reach out to them via email at <a href=\"mailto:LGBT+@uni.lu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LGBT+@uni.lu<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Luxembourg Pride week in Esch-sur-Alzette, PRIZMA collaborated with the University and the Gender Equality Office.
