With the aim of shaping a stronger Europe in an increasingly globalised world, and thereby\u00a0protecting its values and identity, the European Commission has worked hard to build an\u00a0\u201ceconomy at the service of people\u201d that is more ambitious in terms of prosperity, justice and<\/p>

equity.<\/p>

These premises have yet a particular resonance owing to unprecedented societal and\u00a0transnational challenges that we are currently facing, characterised both by economic\u00a0recovery efforts in the European Union before and after the COVID-19 pandemic (InvestEU,\u00a0NGEU) and upheavals in international relations brought about by the Russian military\u00a0aggression against Ukraine. To deal with these multiple issues, Europe must not only\u00a0empower Member States, regions and local communities, but above all, encourage\u00a0participation and commitment of citizens, especially younger generations, to be part of the\u00a0solution. Hence dialogue, debate and constructive exchanges are more vital than ever.<\/p>

As part of their mission to share values and knowledge and encourage openness to new\u00a0horizons, the University of Luxembourg<\/strong>,\u00a0Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg<\/strong>\u00a0and the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg<\/strong>, would like to invite you\u00a0to debate with Mrs. Yuriko Backes<\/strong>, Minister of Finance of Luxembourg and Mr. Paolo\u00a0Gentiloni<\/strong>, European Commissioner for Economy<\/p>
