In 2011, the United Nations\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/documents\/publications\/guidingprinciplesbusinesshr_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights<\/a>\u00a0recognised that businesses have a responsibility to respect human and environmental rights in operations and supply chains. Since then, both businesses and governments around the world have been grappling with how to implement the principles in an effective and cost-conscious way. While initially the focus was on voluntary measures and reporting only requirements, recently the attention has shifted towards mandatory human rights due diligence.<\/p><p>In particular, 2020 has been a remarkable year where regional level legislative developments accelerated. In this webinar we will discuss the growing imperative to address human rights and environmental abuses in the supply chain, current and emerging regulation in this space, and engage with how some businesses are already proactively addressing these issues. MIT Sustainable Supply Chains brings together researchers from across MIT to advance supply chain sustainability, engaging on educational initiatives, research with industrial partners, and outreach around supply chain sustainability. She is specialised in international\u00a0human rights law and in business and human rights. In 2005, he joins the ArcelorMittal Group where he hold executive positions in Logistics, Sales and Systems &#038; processes. She is leading the Action Platform on Decent Work in Global Supply Chains, a group of multinational enterprises and partners committed to take action\u00a0and develop tools to improve working conditions and human rights in their supply chains.\u00a0Mari-lou\u00a0joined the UN Global Compact in 2018 after working as a legal expert at the OECD supporting the responsible business conduct workstream. She has also advised French business associations on the applicability of the French Duty of Vigilance Law. A lawyer by training, she worked\u00a0 alongside Canadian indigenous communities advocating for rights and sustainable development.<\/p><p>Mari-lou\u00a0holds a Law Degree from the University of Montreal\/York University as well as a Degree in anthropology from the University of Montreal\/Lund University.
