Join us for \u201cA Legal Framework for Transparency & Sustainability in Supply Chains\u201d, an online seminar, part of the LCL CONVERSATION SERIES.\u00a0<\/p>

The framework governing the social impacts along the supply chain has been evolving rapidly. In 2011, the United Nations\u2019\u00a0Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights<\/a>\u00a0recognised that businesses have a responsibility to respect human and environmental rights in operations and supply chains. Since then, both businesses and governments around the world have been grappling with how to implement the principles in an effective and cost-conscious way. While initially the focus was on voluntary measures and reporting only requirements, recently the attention has shifted towards mandatory human rights due diligence.<\/p>

In particular, 2020 has been a remarkable year where regional level legislative developments accelerated. In this webinar we will discuss the growing imperative to address human rights and environmental abuses in the supply chain, current and emerging regulation in this space, and engage with how some businesses are already proactively addressing these issues. We will conclude with future thinking discussion on what\u2019s coming down the line and how best to prepare.<\/p>

<\/p>

Dr.\u00a0Alexis Bateman<\/strong> is a Research Scientist and Director of MIT Sustainable Supply chains. MIT Sustainable Supply Chains brings together researchers from across MIT to advance supply chain sustainability, engaging on educational initiatives, research with industrial partners, and outreach around supply chain sustainability. Her research has been featured in numerous academic and industry outlets including Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Sloan Management Review, Supply Chain Management Review, and many others.<\/p>

<\/p>

Dr.\u00a0Ba\u015fak Ba\u011flayan<\/strong>\u00a0is a post-doctoral researcher in fundamental rights at the University of Luxembourg’s Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance. She is specialised in international\u00a0human rights law and in business and human rights. She acts as an independent expert adviser to the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on the latter topic.<\/p>

Grace Barrasso<\/strong> is\u00a0Head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development at ArcelorMittal Mining.\u00a0<\/p>

Dr. Perry Dimmer<\/strong> is currently Head of Supply Chain & Logistics and CIO of ArcelorMittal Belval&Differdange.\u00a0Perry Dimmer started his career in 1999 with Pricewaterhouse-Coopers (PWC) Zurich as senior consultant in demand and supply planning before joining in 2003 Nestle CH in Vevey as IT lead demand\/supply planning and purchasing. In 2005, he joins the ArcelorMittal Group where he hold executive positions in Logistics, Sales and Systems & processes. In 2016 he was nominated to his current positions and as from 2018 he also leads the IT development of the Luxembourgish Long sites\u00a0as CIO AM Belval&Diferdange.\u00a0Perry Dimmer holds a Master\u2019s degree and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland and a postgraduate Master\u2019s degree as Commercial Engineer STV AKAD Zurich.<\/p>

<\/p>

Mari-lou\u00a0Dupont<\/strong>\u00a0is a senior manager at the United Nations Global Compact, the world\u2019s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative. She is leading the Action Platform on Decent Work in Global Supply Chains, a group of multinational enterprises and partners committed to take action\u00a0and develop tools to improve working conditions and human rights in their supply chains.\u00a0Mari-lou\u00a0joined the UN Global Compact in 2018 after working as a legal expert at the OECD supporting the responsible business conduct workstream. She has also advised French business associations on the applicability of the French Duty of Vigilance Law. A lawyer by training, she worked\u00a0 alongside Canadian indigenous communities advocating for rights and sustainable development.<\/p>

Mari-lou\u00a0holds a Law Degree from the University of Montreal\/York University as well as a Degree in anthropology from the University of Montreal\/Lund University. She is a member of the Quebec Bar and has successfully completed her equivalence to practice law in France.<\/p>
