Jan Thoemel received his PhD degree from the RWTH Aachen University (Germany) and von Karman Institute (Belgium), in 2008 for his research related to the gas-surface-interaction of spacecraft materials with the atmosphere. He has worked as a researcher in the European Space Agency and later he headed the 50 cubesats QB50 project. His research interests are in the system engineering of nanosatellites and their aerodynamic performance in the residual LEO atmosphere. Jan joined SnT, reporting to Tonie Van Dam and his mission is to contribute for the launch of the Interdisciplinary Space Masters (ISM), and mainly to establish the ISM CubeSat laboratory.
