Danielle Roster has joined the Institute of History in September 2023 as a Research and Development Specialist in Music History.

Danielle has focused her research on music and gender. She recovered the complete musical estate of the composer Helen Buchholtz (1877-1953) as well as a large selection of hitherto unknown piano compositions by Lou Koster (1889-1973). She created and directed the Archives of Helen Buchholtz, Lou Koster and later the Archivesof contemporary women composers in Luxembourg at CID | Fraen an Gender where she was responsible for research projects, editions and outreach projects. Together with Sonja Kmec, she has been supervising the project MuGi.lu (Music and Gender in Luxembourg) since its launch in January 2022. She is overseeing the development of the platform https://mugi.lu/ and does research on music-related activities in Luxembourg from the 19th to the 21st century from a gender perspective as well as on French composer Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729).

Danielle has published and edited several books as well as articles in books, encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines as well as CD booklets.
2022: International Classical Music Awards: Nomination 2022 for the CD Lou Koster: Der Geiger von Echternach (first recording and world premiere of this piano version) / Singer Pur (Oehms Classics / Naxos 2021) in the category Choral Music (Danielle’s responsibilities in the project: idea, concept and CD production).
Since 2022: Member of the scientific advisory board of the journal Hémecht.
2019: Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis for the bookMit den Haien streiten. Frauen und Gender in Luxemburg seit 1940 (Capybara Books 2018). (Danielle’s responsibilities in the project: idea, concept and co-editorship)
2015: Awarded the Order « Chevalier de l‘Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg », with the mention : « merit for her work to promote women composers in Luxembourg »
Since 2014: Member of the Institut Grand-Ducal, Section Arts et Lettres.
2006: Prix Anne Beffort, Ville de Luxembourg, for pedagogical projects as cultural and musical project manager at CID Fraen an Gender. (area of responsibility of Danielle: idea, concept, management and editorship of the book, organization of workshops and editorship of an homepage for the project KeK Kinder entdecken Künstlerinnen)
Since 2004: Specialist in music at the research organisation SIEFAR Société internationale pour l’étude des femmes de l’ancien Régime, editor of the Dictionnaire des femmes de l’Ancienne France
2002: Prix Nic Thoma for the book Wann de Piano rose gëtt, Luxembourg: Phi 2001.(Danielle’s responsibilities in the project: idea, concept and editorship).
Since 1995: alto in the Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg.
From 1985 to 1991: alto in the Salzburg Bach Choir.
Before joining the University of Luxembourg, Danielle worked as a cultural an musical Manager at CID │ Fraen an Gender where she created the Archives of Women Composers in Luxembourg and was responsible for editions (books, CDs, teaching material, scores on the subject) and music and cultural projects.
