Arrival in Luxembourg

Your arrival day

We recommend that you arrive a few days before the beginning of the semester, so that you have enough time to get familiar with the new environment.

Students with university accommodation should check the possible dates of arrival according to the conditions and the start date of their housing contract. In case of doubts, please contact the Accommodation office.

On your arrival day, you should come to the Incoming Office at Belval Campus to receive your student card.

Arrival at the Luxembourg Airport

The international airport in Luxembourg is located close to the capital city. Plan your trip via mobiliteit.lu

Arrival at the train station Luxembourg, Gare

You can take a train directly from the main train station Luxembourg, Gare to the train station Belval Université.

Public transport

Since 1 March 2020 public transport (bus, train, tram) in the whole Luxembourg country is free of charge!

University Campus

The University of Luxembourg has three campuses.

  • The main Belval Campus is located in the south of the country reachable comfortably by train from the capital.
    You need to come to this main campus on your arrival day, as all offices are located here!
  • Kirchberg Campus is located in Luxembourg city and serves mainly for the Master degree students of the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance (FDEF).
  • Limpertsberg Campus is used mainly by the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) for research.

Incoming Office

Your first steps at the campus will lead to the Incoming Office where you will receive your student ID card.

If your home university requires a certificate of arrival, we recommend bringing the document with you on your arrival; we will confirm your arrival date.

The Incoming Office usually offers exceptional opening hours at the beginning of each semester, however, please note that we do not work over the weekends!

The Affluences app serves for booking appointments for services in the Maison du Savoir (Incoming Office, Accommodation, etc).

How to make an appointment using Affluences?

  • Download the Affluences mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Log into the app or on the website: www.affluences.com
  • On the University of Luxembourg page, select the desired service and time slot and click on “book”.
  • Book by entering your University email address. You will receive an email to confirm your reservation.
  • Confirm your reservation from the email you received (only necessary the first time you use the app).
  • If you need to be supported by several services, you have to book several appointments.

Please note that you will not be able to clarify questions regarding admission, enrolment, mobility and doctoral studies personally without an arranged appointment.

Accommodation office

Students who applied for accommodation in a student residence have to visit the Accommodation office in order to sign the housing contract and pick up the room keys.

Accommodation office is located on 5th floor, MSA.

Arrival procedure for EU citizens

All EU citizens staying in Luxembourg for more than 90 days pursuing their study have to follow this procedure.

  • Declaration of arrival (within 8 days of arrival)
  • Registration certificate (within 3 months of arrival)
  • Step by step instructions available on guichet.public.lu under “How to proceed”

Arrival procedure for Non-EU citizens

All Non-EU citizens must follow this procedure immediately after their arrival to Luxembourg!

After entering the country:

  • make a declaration of arrival in your new commune of residence in Luxembourg (within 3 days of arrival in Luxembourg);
  • undergo a medical check;
  • apply for a residence permit for third-country students
  • follow the step by step instructions available on guichet.public.lu under “After entering the country”

Note: Ask at the Accommodation office where is your commune of residence, as it depends on the location of your student residence.

Late arrival

The latest possible arrival for incoming students is two weeks after the start of the semester.

In case you will not arrive by this date with no explanation in advance, your exchange semester will be cancelled.
