SUMMARY:UniverCITY Talks: multilingual schooling in Luxembourg – what are the challenges and benefits?
DESCRIPTION:Luxembourg is often seen as a multilingual success story – but what does this look like in practice, and what are the trade-offs?\n\nChildren in Luxembourg grow up in a school system where the language of instruction changes several times, from Luxembourgish in early education to German in primary school and later to French in secondary school. This session explores how these transitions shape learning and development, from classroom expectations to cognitive impacts.\n\nIt will examine both the opportunities and the challenges of multilingual education, including how educational outcomes are interpreted in a multilingual context. We will also discuss how learning difficulties and developmental language disorders can be recognised in children growing up with several languages—and how to distinguish between typical multilingual development and the need for additional support.\n\nJoin us for expert insights, audience Q&A, and a lively discussion. This event will be held in English.\n\nProgramme\n\n18.00 - Roundtable\n\nDiscussion and Q&A session\n\n19.15 - Networking\n\nWith drinks and light bites\n\nSpeakers\n\nProf Christine SCHILTZ\n\nFull professor in Cognitive Neuroscience\n\nLearn more\n\nAssoc.
