SUMMARY:Demystifying ERC Programmes: A guide to successful submissions
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n\nThe European Research Council (ERC) is a public organisation of the European Commission whose goal is to fund excellent research around the world. Researchers from any domain and affiliation can apply to later develop their scientific advances in an EU institution or associated country if funded. The bottom-up scientific spirit of the different ERC programmes (all topics welcomed), plus the focus on the needs of the principal investigator (PI) distinguishes ERC from other funding bodies. The flexibility for implementing the scientific plan and the appealing resources allocated to the PI have enabled ERC grantees to pursue their dreams of ambitious goals in a way that is difficult to find elsewhere outside of ERC.\n\nThis talk will present the Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced programmes, with their particularities, opportunities, and details, so as to guide applicants. Also, the Synergy grants and Proof-of-Concept instruments will be discussed. The overarching goal of this presentation is to inform, encourage, guide, and answer questions from prospective applicants.\n\nThose of you interested in the slides of this presentation or further information about ERC Calls are welcome to contact the speaker, Enrique Alba.\n\nAbout the presenter\n\nEnrique Alba is Seconded National Expert at the European Research Council (ERC) on leave from the Universidad de Málaga, where he leads an international team of researchers in the field of complex optimization/learning with applications in industry, smart cities, bioinformatics, software engineering, telecoms, quantum computing, and others. In addition to the organisation of numerous ACM/IEEE international events, Prof. Alba has directed many research projects (10 with national funds, 8 in Europe, and numerous bilateral actions) as well as 12 projects for innovation in companies. He has also worked as an invited professor at INRIA, Luxembourg, Ostrava, Scotland, Japan, Argentina, Cuba, Uruguay, and Mexico. He has served as editor in several international journals and book series of Springer-Verlag and Wiley, and is included in the list of most prolific DBLP authors and in the top five most relevant researchers in Informatics in Spain (according to ISI). Prof. Alba's h-index is 70, with more than 23,000 citations to his work.\n\nProgramme\n\n14.00 - 14.30\n\nCoffee and registration\n\n14.30 - 15.30\n\nPart I.
