SUMMARY:Bringing citizens closer to the EU and fighting disinformation
DESCRIPTION:Exchange with the European Commission Director General for Communication Dana Spinant\n\nAs the new European Commission starts its mandate this month, the EC President’s political guidelines for 2024-2029 have stressed the crucial importance of putting citizens at the heart of our democracy. Only by engaging citizens and partners from civil society, academia, businesses and other sectors we can, as European Union, live up to the scale of the concerns and the challenges that people currently face in their lives.\n\nWith the information space being increasingly blurred by fake news and populism or external threats to democracy, building trust in the EU and strengthening our collective resilience also requires proactively countering disinformation and information manipulation.\n\nWhat are the European Commission’s key priorities for the new mandate and how can communication and outreach contribute to engaging citizens in this collective mission?\n\nThese are the key themes that will be addressed by the European Commission Director General for Communication Dana Spinant on the occasion of her visit to Luxembourg.\n\nThe EC Representation in Luxembourg has the pleasure to invite the EU network members, civil society partners and partners from academia in Luxembourg to an exchange with DG Spinant on these topics. This is an opportunity to learn about the new European Commission priorities, as well as to provide your valuable views and suggestions for bringing citizens closer to the EU.\n\nThe event will take place on 10 February 2025, from 15.30 to 17.00, at the European Documentation Centre (hosted by WeCitizens) in Bonnevoie, Luxembourg.\n\nProgramme\n\n15.30 - Welcome\n\nCaroline Reviriot, Director EDC/WeCitizens\nShowcasing the work of the EDC/WeCitizens on Europe\n\n15.45 - Keynote remarks\n\nEuropean Commission Director General for Communication Dana Spinant\nNew EC policy priorities, communication and fight against disinformation – challenges and opportunities in bringing citizens closer to the EU\n\n16.00 - Roundtable\n\nExchanges and Q&A with the representatives of the University of Luxembourg and EU network members and multipliers in Luxembourg\n\n16.30 - Informal exchanges\n\nNetworking, with refreshments provided by the EC Representation in Luxembourg\n\n17.00 - End of the event\n\nLanguage\n\nEnglish, with possibility of informal exchanges in French.\n\nRegistration\n\nPlease note that the number of places is limited.\n\nYou can register until 5 February on the following link:\n\nBringing citizens closer to the EU and fighting disinformation\n\nPicture: Mauro Bottaro - European Union, 2018\n\nLocation: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sjT3CDSxRnw35dtN9\nRead more: https://www.uni.lu/en/events/bringing-citizens-closer-to-the-eu-and-fighting-disinformation/
