DESCRIPTION:The Bridge Forum Dialogue in partnership with the University of Luxembourg and the Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg (ED-UNILU) have the honour of inviting you to a conference entitled:\n\nAI – A Technology with Opportunities and Challenges:\nAbout Facts, Fiction, and Hype\n\nAbstract\n\nThe 21st century is defined by rapidly changing digital technologies that permeate every aspect of daily life and are decisively shaping our future. Among them, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands out as a strategically vital and transformative force. This talk will explore the reality behind the buzz - distinguishing facts, fiction, and hype surrounding AI. It will highlight how AI does not stand alone, but forms a powerful digital continuum alongside Data Science and High-Performance Computing (HPC). As with all transformative technologies, AI demands thoughtful reflection and responsible use. What sets humans apart from Generative AI systems like ChatGPT? And finally, how is the University of Luxembourg engaging with these developments - academically, strategically, and ethically?\n\nThe keynote speaker will be\n\nProf Jens KREISEL\nRector of the University of Luxembourg\nMember of the Board of the Bridge Forum Dialogue\n\nThe conference will be chaired by\n\nProf Marie-Hélène JOBIN\nVice-Rector for Partnerships and International Relations of the University of Luxembourg\nMember of the Executive Committee of the Bridge Forum Dialogue\n\nThe speech will be followed by a questions-and-answers session.\nA reception will take place afterwards.\n\nThis conference shall be held in a hybrid format.\n\nIn person\n\n(within the limits of available seats)\n\nVenue: HEMICYCLE, European Convention Center Luxembourg\n\nVirtually\n\nA few days before the event, the streaming link will be sent to the registered participants.\n\nWednesday, 11 June 2025\n\nRegistration mandatory\n\nNo conference fees\n\nEnglish\n\nHemicycle, European Convention Center Luxembourg\n1, rue du Fort Thüngen\nL-1499 Lux- Kirchberg\n\nMandatory registration online on Bridge Forum Dialogue.\nRegister at the latest 4 June 2025.\n\nPlease mention on the registration form if you will attend the event virtually or in person.\n\nBiographical notes\n\nProf Jens Kreisel\n\nRector of the University of Luxembourg and Member of the Board of the Bridge Forum Dialogue\nProfessor Jens KREISEL is since 2023 the Rector of the University of Luxembourg, after being in 2018-2022 its Vice-Rector for Research. He is Professor in Physics and Materials Sciences, with a particular interest in how different physical properties interact and how this can be translated into cutting-edge technology. In addition to his career as a scientist, Jens has acquired over the past decade a large experience in the senior executive management of academic institutions. Before joining Uni.lu, he has been the Founding Director of the Department Materials Research and Technology (MRT) at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), Director of Research at the CNRS in Grenoble and Dpt. Vice-President of the Grenoble Institute of Technology. Jens is a strong proponent of interdisciplinary approaches to tackle today’s complex challenges, from digital transformation to climate change and inequality.\n\nProf Marie-Hélène Jobin\n\nVice-Rector for Partnerships and International Relations of the University of Luxembourg and Member of the Executive Committee of the Bridge Forum Dialogue\nProfessor Marie-Hélène Jobin is Vice-Rector for Partnerships and International Relations at the University of Luxembourg, where she oversees the development and promotion of the University's impact on Luxembourg’s society and economy, as well as on European society more broadly. She supports the initiation and strengthening of public and private partnerships, the development of academic chairs, the valorisation of intellectual property and the University’s expertise through partnerships, collaborations, or intellectual property licensing, as well as support for entrepreneurship, incubation, and the acceleration of startups and spin-offs originating from the University. Internationally, she supervises the strategic development of inter-university collaborations and the mobility network for students and staff, cooperation with universities in developing countries, and the strengthening of the University's voice within global academic networks. A dedicated professor committed to experience-based learning and applied research in collaboration with industry, she has extensive governance experience in the academic sector, particularly in Canada.
