Recognition of secondary school leaver’s certificate (“Equivalence”)

Any student wishing to enrol in the University of Luxembourg has to make a request for recognition of the secondary school leaver’s certificate, if and only if the diploma was not issued by the Ministry of Education of Luxembourg.

Who is concerned ?
• Any candidate from the following secondary schools in Luxembourg:

  • International School (BI) – Ecole privée Grandjean – St. George’s International School – Lycée français du Luxembourg (Vauban) – Fräi-ëffentlech-Waldorfschoul Lëtzebuerg.

These secondary schools do not use the official curriculum of the Luxembourg Ministry of Education.

• Any candidate with a secondary school certificate from an institution in one of the signatory countries of the Paris Convention on the Equivalence of Diplomas and the Lisbon Recognition Convention.
• Any candidate with a secondary school certificate from the European Union.

Recognition of University diploma or Higher Education (Registration in the register of titles)

In preparation for the definitive enrolment in a master’s programme at the University of Luxembourg, any student who does not hold a bachelor’s degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS according to the framework of the Bologna process, issued by a higher education institution located in another Member State of the European Union, in a Member State of the European Economic Area or in a Swiss Confederation recognised by the competent authorities of the State in question and certifying higher education recognised by the same competent authorities, must compulsorily submit an application to register the diploma to the register of qualifications, higher education section at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in Luxembourg.
