Lëtz Share – the object library at the University of Luxembourg

Lëtz Share begins operations on 18 May. Our mascot and we look forward to seeing you from 14.00 on the first floor of the Maison du Savoir, near the PC Security.

Welcome to Lëtz Share, the University’s object library.

The Sustainability Team and Transition Minett are delighted to announce the launch of Lëtz Share, an object library that allows the University Community to borrow everyday items free of charge. Three categories are featured: kitchen appliances, sports equipment, and leisure items.

Why this initiative?

It all started with the realisation that, on average, a purchased item is used very little. We are all familiar with the example of the electric drill, which is used for a mere 13 minutes on average over its entire lifespan. So, rather than buying, why not share the use of items: it’s good for your wallet and good for the planet! Less money spent on non-essential purchases, fewer resources consumed, optimised use, and extended lifespan through smart recycling via SIVEC, the inter-municipal resource centre for the Esch-sur-Alzette region.

How do you borrow an item?

Visit the Lëtz Share platform to register and browse through the items on offer.

Reserve the item and come and collect it from the first floor of the MSA (look out for our mascot) on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings. Jana and Emilie, our two student librarians, will hand over the reserved item to you and collect it a week later, clean and in good condition.

Come and try out this new service!

Lëtz Share – why buy when you can borrow for free?

  • Who can reserve items through Lëtz Share?

The library and its services are exclusively for members of the university community (students, staff and contract staff).

  • How do I reserve an item?

The library and its services are exclusively for members of the university community (students, staff and contract staff).

  • How long can I keep the item I’ve borrowed?

The standard loan period is 7 days. You can extend it on the platform, provided the item hasn’t already been reserved by someone else.

  • What should I do if the item is broken or doesn’t work?

In the event of a breakdown, loss, theft or damage, the borrower must follow the appropriate procedure:

    • If the item is not working properly, no attempt should be made to repair it. If the problem is due to misuse, the borrower is responsible for repairing or replacing the item.
    • In the event of loss or theft, the borrower must report this to the relevant authorities within 7 days and provide official proof. If the item is not recovered within 30 days, it must be replaced with an equivalent model.
    • If the item is damaged, it must be returned in good condition. If not, repair or replacement is required within 14 days.

These rules are set out in the loan agreement, which must be signed upon registering on the Lëtz Share platform.

  • Can I suggest items that Lëtz Share should add to its library?

Yes, there is a section on the platform where you can suggest items to be added. If you’d like to donate items to the library, you can do so via the same section. Rather than letting your item gather dust in a cupboard, why not make it available to the community!

  • What if I want to borrow gardening tools or DIY equipment?

No problem. We’ve got the solution: head over to Gutt Geschier, Minett’s other transition object library, dedicated to gardening and DIY.

Is everything clear? Then there’s no excuse not to try Lëtz Share, the University’s object library.

If you still have questions, please contact our two librarians or the Sustainability Team.
