You reach out and it responds to your movement.&nbsp;<strong>Digital, innovative, experimental, interdisciplinary and global<\/strong>: each rotation reveals a new facet of the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C\u00b2DH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Welcome to the home page of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 Annual Report<\/a><\/strong>, a showcase presenting a year characterised by pioneering research and creative outreach, all made possible by a committed, passionate and collaborative team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s report explores the idea that\u00a0<strong>\u201c<\/strong>Science is about producing creative uncertainty<strong>\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0a concept that takes on new meaning in the digital age of historical research. As\u00a0<strong>Andreas Fickers<\/strong>, founding director of the C\u00b2DH, explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDoing history always means that you are faced to the unknown. Whenever you enter an archive or a library, you will discover new knowledge, and you have to adapt your research question according to the findings \u2013 so uncertainty is a key element of the scientific process as such, and the hermeneutic circle means that you constantly have to adapt your question to the new findings. In digital history, I would say we have another dimension of uncertainty, which is that when we use digital tools or technologies, infrastructures for doing that kind of research, we also have to understand how those tools, how those infrastructures impact, interfere with what we are doing. So this explorative dimension of using technology adds another level of uncertainty to what we do as historians, and that\u2019s why it\u2019s so important really to document this process very carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"a-look-back-at-2024\"\n    >\n<strong>A Look Back at 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the Centre launched\u00a0<strong>four new open-access digital resources<\/strong>\u00a0that make history more accessible, interactive and engaging:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ww2.lu \u2013 Luxembourg in the Second World War<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/historesch.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Historesch Gesinn<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mininghistory.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The History of the National Miners\u2019 Monument<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/warlux.uni.lu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Warlux<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these flagship resources, the report highlights six innovative projects that have had a strong impact on both the academic community and the general public:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/hivi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>A history of online virality<\/strong><\/a>: Exploring and historicising the phenomenon of online virality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/historesch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Historesch Gesinn<\/strong><\/a>: Strengthening links between science and society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/letterbox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Letterbox<\/strong><\/a>: Understanding the local ecosystem behind shell companies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/luxtime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Luxtime<\/strong><\/a>: Building a national consortium to analyse Luxembourg\u2019s historical \u201cbig data\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/world-war-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>World War II in Luxemb(o)urg<\/strong><\/a>: Designing an\u00a0interactive online exhibition that preserves and shares the history of World War II in Luxembourg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/zoomland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Zoomland<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0Exploring a multi-layered \u201cbook land(scape)\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-spacer is-spacer-size-sm\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"research-education-events\"\n    >\n<strong>Research, Education &amp; Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The report also offers insight into\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/research-report\/research-projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ongoing projects<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/research-report\/phd-theses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doctoral theses<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/research-report\/publications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">publications<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/report\/2024\/research-report\/event-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">events<\/a> in 2024.
