{"id":6261,"date":"2022-12-20T15:54:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T14:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=6261"},"modified":"2025-02-19T10:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T09:28:16","slug":"individual-afr-grant-call-for-phd-applicants-in-public-history","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/news\/individual-afr-grant-call-for-phd-applicants-in-public-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Individual AFR grant &#8211; Call for PhD applicants in Public History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>The Public History as the New Citizen Science of the Past (PHACS) team at the C\u00b2DH calls for PhD applicants in Public History.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c2dh.uni.lu\/projects\/public-history-new-citizen-science-past-phacs\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Public History as the New Citizen Science of the Past (PHACS)<\/a> team is looking for motivated and qualified candidates who are interested in developing, with our help, an application for an individual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnr.lu\/funding-instruments\/afr\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">AFR PhD grant<\/a>&nbsp;by the&nbsp;National Research Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The doctoral project represents an excellent opportunity for qualified students to contribute to the knowledge and practice of public history in a European context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If selected for an AFR, the PhD candidate will be offered a<strong>&nbsp;work contract (up to 4 years)&nbsp;<\/strong>and will work on their PhD thesis with supervisors in the PHACS team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We particularly welcome applicants who would like to develop a PhD project along the research areas listed below, but other research proposals that contribute to diversify and push the field of public history further, on a practical or theoretical level, are also welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">History, theory and methodology of public history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Actors, means and infrastructures of collaboration, participation and shared authority in public history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Public history and\/in cultural heritage institutions (museums, archives, foundations\u2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Digital public history<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Your profile<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Candidates should have (or expect to achieve) a&nbsp;Master degree in History, Cultural Studies or a related field in the Humanities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Excellent verbal communication and academic writing skills in&nbsp;English<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Enthusiasm for research&nbsp;and&nbsp;critical thinking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">Experience in cultural heritage, cultural institutions, and\/or public engagement is an asset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><i>We actively encourage applicants from underrepresented social, economic, and cultural backgrounds to apply, as we strongly believe that an intercultural and diverse team strengthens the research and practice of public history.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful AFR applicants will be offered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">An exciting multi-disciplinary and international research environment with ample opportunities to exchange with scholars at the University of Luxembourg;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">A highly&nbsp;competitive salary&nbsp;for a&nbsp;full-time PhD position for a period of maximum 4 consecutive years&nbsp;(3+1 years);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\">A&nbsp;package of mentoring, training and career development&nbsp;as well as access to a wide range of courses and seminars offered by the University of Luxembourg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Doctoral candidates are encouraged to actively engage in disciplinary, interdisciplinary as well as transferable skills trainings and to develop their scientific profile and network through participation in international conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prepare your&nbsp;complete&nbsp;application&nbsp;including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please send your application to <a href=\"mailto:phacs@uni.lu\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">phacs@uni.lu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deadline for applications: <strong>22 January 2023<\/strong> at midnight CET (Luxembourg time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application by the beginning of February.
