{"id":5985,"date":"2024-12-10T10:58:40","date_gmt":"2024-12-10T09:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=5985"},"modified":"2024-12-10T10:58:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-10T09:58:41","slug":"new-website-the-history-of-the-national-miners-monument-in-kayl","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/news\/new-website-the-history-of-the-national-miners-monument-in-kayl\/","title":{"rendered":"New website: The History of the National Miners\u2019 Monument in Kayl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/mininghistory.uni.lu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new website<\/a>, developed by the C\u00b2DH as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/research-projects\/itm\/\">research project<\/a> about the history of the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM), explores the intertwined histories of the National Miners\u2019 Monument and the L\u00e9iffr\u00e4chen in Kayl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inaugurated in 1957 and classified as a national cultural heritage since 2017, the National Miners\u2019 Monument contains a a series of stone tablets arranged in a semi-circle, most of these tablets commemorate miners who lost their lives in work-related accidents in the Grand Duchy. The workers listed on the monument range in age from 13 to 78 years. It is based on the work of postdoctoral researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/people\/sam-klein\/\">Sam Klein<\/a> who investigates the history of the Luxembourgish Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) from the founding of the Administration des mines in 1869 to the organisation\u2019s 150th anniversary in 2019.
