It also surveys the way the company deployed a range of paratextual promotional materials to sell games like&nbsp;<em>Red Dead Redemption<\/em> and&nbsp;<em>L.A. Noire<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;and specifically, to sell their \u201cauthenticity\u201d. The talk notes the importance of incorporating games into our conceptualisation of \u201cdigital history,\u201d as well as the need to consider born-digital paratexts materials in our analyses of historical video games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Esther Wright<\/strong> is Lecturer in Digital History at Cardiff University (Wales, UK), where she researches and teaches historical video games. She is the author of Rockstar Games and<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1515\/9783110716610\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American History: Promotional Materials and the Construction of Authenticity<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;(De Gruyter, 2022), and co-editor (with John Wills) of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oupress.com\/9780806191850\/red-dead-redemption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Red Dead Redemption: History, Myth and Violence in the Video Games West<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(University of Oklahoma Press, 2023).
