{"id":11935,"date":"2026-03-03T09:44:58","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T08:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=11935"},"modified":"2026-03-03T09:44:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T08:44:59","slug":"phacs-collaboration-history-of-a-former-prison","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/news\/phacs-collaboration-history-of-a-former-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"New PHACS Collaboration: A participatory research-creation project on the history of a former prison"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"new-phacs-collaboration-in-rennes-france\"\n    >\nNew PHACS Collaboration in Rennes, France<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/research-projects\/phacs\/\"> Public History as a New Citizen Science of the Past (PHACS)<\/a> project has the pleasure to announce a new collaboration with the historians of the association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cartier.libre_rennes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cartier Libre<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.univ-nantes.fr\/gaid-andro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ga\u00efd Andro<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/criham.labo.univ-poitiers.fr\/membres\/fanny-le-bonhomme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fanny Le Bonhomme)<\/a> and the directors of the theatre company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamorsure.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Morsure<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamorsure.com\/\">Christophe Lecheviller<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamorsure.com\/\">Marie Parent<\/a>) on a participatory research-creation project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research project is rooted in a specific context: the redevelopment of the Jacques-Cartier prison (closed in 2010, purchased by Rennes M\u00e9tropole in 2021, and currently undergoing a participatory urban planning process). As a continuation of an oral investigation into this prison, the historians of Cartier Libre invited the directors of the company La Morsure to collaboratively develop a research protocol aimed at bringing together theatre and history in order to uncover other stories of confinement. The project includes theatre improvisation workshops, which bring together a group of participants (prison wards, former inmates, social workers, teachers, neighbors), all of whom share personal experience with the Jacques-Cartier prison. These workshops are a trademark of how artistic creation can highlight the multiplicity of narratives. This methodological approach to shared authority is putting together the historians\u2019 work on the prison with that of&nbsp; the theater participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration with PHACS will include workshops (on shared authority, conflicting narratives, oral history etc) , publications and public performances that question how artistic creation and public history can help approach
