{"id":12596,"date":"2026-05-18T11:17:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T09:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=12596"},"modified":"2026-05-18T11:55:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T09:55:43","slug":"collection-of-ukrainian-testimonies-of-the-war-launched-in-luxembourg","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/articles\/collection-of-ukrainian-testimonies-of-the-war-launched-in-luxembourg\/","title":{"rendered":"Collection of Ukrainian Testimonies of the War Launched in Luxembourg"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/research-projects\/u-core\/\">U-CORE<\/a> project (<em>Researching the Collecting, Preserving, Analysing and Disclosing of Ukrainian Testimonies of the War<\/em>) launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/research-projects\/u-core\/interview-archive\/\">collection of more than 80 interviews<\/a> with uprooted Ukrainian citizens during a hybrid event on 13 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof Machteld Venken opened the evening presenting the project\u2019s main outcome: a new integral digital workflow for the collecting, analysing, preserving and disclosing of testimonies of persons at risk developed in Luxembourg. That workflow guarantees the secure handling of data during data modeling, recording and interviewing, transcribing, identifying sensitive information, and disclosing. It is an ethically grounded epistemic intervention that redefines authority, ownership, and responsibility in born-digital collections. Particular attention was paid to the project\u2019s main innovative solutions: an extension of the <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.clarin.eu\/ds\/ComponentRegistry\/#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLARIN Component Metadata Infrastructure (CMDI)<\/a> in the form of a dedicated sensitivity component, and a combined computational-human analytical method for the detection of sensitive data as well as the assessment of these data for potential disclosure. The presentation was continued by Dr Aliesia Soloviova, the main developer of a new custom-built application for disclosure, called the U-CORE Database Structure. Their individual reflections, followed by an engaging collective exchange, highlighted the speakers\u2019 enthusiasm for the project\u2019s outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna Cole emphasised how the project broadened the notion of \u201csensitivity\u201d beyond its GDPR\u2011based definition\u2014drafted in a time of peace\u2014towards a co\u2011constructed understanding shaped jointly by researchers and interviewees. Simon Donig commended the Luxembourg team\u2019s view of digital infrastructure as an epistemic framework, which inspired the development of a custom-built application designed to shape how knowledge about Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion is generated now and in the future. Prof Andreas Fickers welcomed the project\u2019s transparent articulation of each digital intervention across the entire workflow.
