The Colonial Digital History Network invites you to join its inaugural workshop on 13 May 2025. This event is designed for scholars interested in exploring various aspects of colonial histories, providing a place to foster and share knowledge, and showcase how digital tools, sources and methods can enhance their research. Additionally, it emphasises the importance of acknowledging and addressing the nuances of colonial sources and the role of positionality.
Whether you’re interested in colonial source analysis, using GIS to visualise complex historical data, what we can learn from 500 years of written accounts of Africa, trajectories of colonial exploitation, which software could best assist with organising your growing datasets, or how digital tools can change the historical narrative, this workshop provides an opportunity to explore a variety of new and shared interests, and provide a means of engaging with more people in these critical conversations. This event serves as an excellent platform to connect with international scholars working in the field, establish new professional networks, and engage with your network of study. The relaxed atmosphere encourages idea development, experimentation, and the presentation of ongoing projects and works-in-progress.
A limited number of travel grants are available to scholars to attend. Please email Lauren Coetzee (lauren.coetzee@uni.lu) should you wish to apply for this.
If you are interested in participating or attending, please register before 18 April 2025.
